In the absence of a general state regulation on unmarried partnerships, it has been the Autonomous Communities and Local Corporations that have regulated this matter, establishing specific names, defining the concept, creating registers for this purpose, so there is no common treatment of this figure applicable throughout the national territory.

The Castile and Leon Registry of Unmarried Partnerships responds to the demand of those couples who share their lives in an affective relationship analogous to a marital relationship, not based on a marriage bond, who require the existence of an instrument that accredits their situation..
